Botox stands short for botulinum toxin and has virtually revolutionized the conservative treatment of wrinkles over the past years. A reduction of facial wrinkles is achieved by focused relaxation of mimic muscles in that particular area. This must be handled with care however: the muscles must not be completely paralyzed as this would result in the expressionless facial masks, which have grown to be rather daunting examples.
The effect of Botox appears approximately four to five days after the treatment and usually lasts for half a year. Botox is particularly suitable for the treatment of the glabellar frown lines, forehead wrinkles (lofty brows) as well as laugh lines (crow’s feet). Furthermore the appearance of tired heavy eyes can be refreshed by elevating the eyebrows slightly with Botox.
